Goal Mastery

SASI specialises in evidence-based care for people with autism. This outcome-driven approach helps participants achieve their full potential.

Many interventions exist for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), yet scientific research has found only some of these interventions to be effective. The interventions that researchers have shown to be effective are called evidence–based practices (EBPs).

What is evidence-based care?

Evidence-based care provides proof that SASI’s services are effective.
This is proven through:

  • Research
  • Benchmarking
  • Staff professional development
  • Evaluation processes of service outcomes over time
  • Feedback from staff, families and participants

Why is evidence-based care so important?

ASD care is constantly improving. SASI aims to provide the best care possible to ensure participants reach their full potential. If a better way is found, SASI looks at incorporating these changes promptly into services and care programs.

What does evidence-based care mean for your family?

SASI monitors and evaluates services continually to improve effectiveness. Participant data is collected via a cutting-edge CMS (Client Management System). This provides the tool for staff to monitor participants daily. This data is then measured against participant goals and SASI’s outcome-driven strategic plan. The data makes the resulting constant improvement possible.

SASI’s Participant Planning Framework produces the following:

  • Person Centred Plans (PCPs)
  • Support Plans (SPs)
  • Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)

Person Centred Plan (PCP)

SASI works with participants and their support networks to write a PCP. This plan helps individual participants identify their dreams and goals.

Support Plan

The Support Plan includes a participant’s long-term goals. This plan helps participants create milestones related to their goals and dreams. The support plan can also include staff, equipment, family goals or other items that can help a participant reach their current and future potential.
Note: SASI’s uses the Goal Mastery Program to break down Support Plan goals into smaller tasks that can be measured with data. This assists with SASI’s change process.

Behaviour Support

SASI has a best practice, dedicated system in place to monitor trends in participant behaviour. Behaviour can signal the need for change. These are logged and analysed regularly. Recommendations on changes to a participant’s program or extra support can then be made.

How it all comes together

SASI’s uses the Goal Mastery Program to break down Support Plan goals into smaller tasks that can be measured with data. This assists with SASI’s change process.

SASI recognises communication as a human right. Participants face communication difficulties daily and SASI creates practical plans that ‘speak’ to each individual participant. These plans are personalised and presented to each participant in a format they can understand. For example, plans can be in the form of video stories, posters, easy-to-read English or photo boards.
SASI has a dedicated communications coordinator who develops and maintains a Communication Resource Library. The staff member in this role offers solutions to communication challenges via a mix of expert communication and tech tools.

Participant health is directly related to life satisfaction and comfort. SASI promotes physical health and also uses systems, processes and reporting tools to regularly monitor a participant’s health. This ensures the best health outcomes possible for all participants. The SASI team works with a range of health professionals to meet health outcomes and conducts regular monitoring of health issues.

Families of people need to ensure their loved one’s safety and security. This is why SASI encourages a participant’s family and friends to offer feedback. All concerns and questions are welcome.
The SASI Board endorses the following policies. These are regularly reviewed and the outcomes of each are monitored:

  • Code of Conduct
  • Participant complaints
  • Participant Privacy

SASI uses a Quality Business Planning Framework that includes:

  • Strategy
  • Business and Risk Planning

This framework includes data reporting to measure outcomes, trends and benefits to SASI participants.
