RECREATION SERVICES

The Recreation Coordinator is employed part-time to manage Statewide Autistic Services Inc flexible recreation program. This program (FROC) is funded by DHS Southern Metropolitan Region under the ‘GreatBreak’ initative; children, adolescents and young adults with disabilities living in the Southern Region are eligible to access this service.
Families must contact the Recreation Coordinator for an application form and live in the Southern Region to be eligible for a recreation package of support. GreatBreak funded recreation/respite packages are allocated to clients annually and can be used to support respite in a variety of ways;
- Community operated school holiday programs.
- Community based clubs and social groups.
- Camps.
- 1:1 support.
- SASI recreation programs as outlined below.
- Other as negotiated with the Recreation Coordinator.
Please note funds cannot be used to provide care or assistance for other family members.
SASI RECREATION ACTIVITIES
- SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAMS – Each school holiday period SASI offer a number of outings for people with a disability. We aim to meet the needs of different age groups, abilities, as well as those of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- ADVENTURE CLUB – Regular weekend excursions are organised for small groups of children, adolescents and young adults with disabilities.
- CAMPS – Approximately 3 camps per year are organised for people with disabilities living within the Southern Region. Camps are generally for 2 nights and are held in the Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland area.
All recreation activities are staffed at a ratio of 1 staff member to 2 clients with some capacity for 1:1 support if needed.
