Children with hearing difficulties can lead to a late autism diagnosis as some autistic traits may not present or be recognised early due to the prevalence of hearing issues. It’s estimated that autism occurs in 4 to 9 per cent of people with autism as opposed to 1 per cent of the non-autistic population.
