About the role
The Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner will deliver individualised strategies for autistic people that are responsive to the person’s needs, in a way that increases quality of life, reduces the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and minimises the use of restrictive practices. Positive Behaviour Supports will be delivered under supervision of the Positive Behaviour Support Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
• Developing individualised strategies for people with disabilities that are responsive to the person’s needs, in a way that reduces the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and minimises the use of restrictive practices
• Create and implement individualized Positive Behaviour Support Plans that are tailored to the specific needs, preferences, and goals of the individual.
• Undertaking functional behavioural assessments to develop Positive Behaviour Support plans containing evidence-based, proactive strategies that meet the specific needs of the person displaying behaviour of concern
• Developing, overseeing and ensuring Positive Behaviour Support plans meet both clinical and NDIS requirements in consultation with the person with disability, their family, medical practitioners, allied health professionals, carers and other relevant people and service providers who will be implementing the plan
• Ensure appropriate NDIS approvals are completed accurately and on time to ensure billing is accurate
• Liaise with teams to support completion of admin tasks and ensure efficient processes
• Ensure risk assessment, mitigation and quality improvement practices are implemented
• Respond to all/any incidents in a timely way; follow up issues and update log with comprehensive information
About You
• The successful candidate will be highly resourceful, confident to work autonomously and jump in as a team-player, be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, while remaining flexible, proactive, and efficient.
• Knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Practice Standards, particularly the requirements for behaviour support.
• Familiarity with legislation surrounding the use of restrictive practices, including the need for consent and the requirement for these practices to be the last resort.
• Proficiency in conducting functional behaviour assessments (FBAs) to understand the causes and purposes of challenging behaviours.
• Knowledge of evidence-based behavioural interventions and how to apply them in a way that promotes positive behaviour changes.
• Skill Development: Expertise in strategies that focus on teaching new skills as alternatives to challenging behaviours.
